The 5G era introduces new, smart, bandwidth-hungry services delivered at very high speed. To cater for these requirements Communication Service Providers (CSPs), have to enhance the edge and access part of their networks to achieve:
The edge and access part of the network now requires intelligence that was hitherto encountered only in the core part of the network. To be able to support the new 5G services as well as to provide advanced connectivity to their Enterprise Customers, CSPs need to transform their Cell/Customer sites.
In Cell Sites, the presence of multiple boxes is a burden for CSPs as it implies extra costs (ownership, operation, support, power consumption, etc.). In addition, it affects the network (and offered services) with complexity, additional administration effort, increased latency, possible incompatibility and degraded overall performance.
The solution to the above challenges is IP/MPLS. An industry-proven technology, widely deployed and smoothly coupled with Carrier Ethernet (Metro) technology at the edge and access locations; a clear preference for operators. The convergence of Wireless transmission and IP/MPLS simplifies mobile backhauling and enables intelligent enterprise connectivity.
IP/MPLS enabled wireless products help CSPs to:
Intracom Telecom transforms their trusted product offerings into intelligent networking devices to best serve their customers in the 5G era.
By leaving all the powerful radio functions intact and by adding IP/MPLS functionality, the radios become capable to provide all the advanced services that are required by the new Cell Sites / Access Sites.
Initially the UltraLink™-GX80 is transformed, with IP/MPLS functionality, to an enriched full outdoor device with networking intelligence. The UltraLink™-GX80 , in addition to advance L2 capabilities, now supports local L3 functionality along with IP/MPLS connectivity with the core network. The new functionality renders the additional router at Cell Sites unnecessary and, in addition, CSPs can now facilitate and simplify the connectivity of enterprise customers with their networks using the minimum possible hardware.
The new firmware is backward compatible with the existing UltraLink™-GX80, enabling CSPs – already using UltraLink™-GX80 in the field – to keep their hardware and protect their investment.
The new IP/MPLS features become readily available to the existing UltraLink™-GX80 units with a simple software upgrade.
Additionally, the uni|MS™ Unified Management Suite is further enriched to visualize the new IP/MPLS functions, with end-to-end provisioning and management.
April 9-12, 2019, Intracom Telecom participated in the multi-vendor Interoperability Showcase organized by EANTC at the MPLS + SDN + NFV World Congress 2019 in Paris; read the press release.
Intracom Telecom successfully demonstrated interoperability for MPLS based services (L3VPN, L2VPN VPWS, L2VPN VPLS), MPLS Resiliency networking capabilities and the ETH-BN feature as it has been validated along with routers and MW nodes of prominent vendors.
A whitepaper explaining all the tests and results is available from EANTC at http://www.eantc.de/
