Intracom Telecom undertakes Virtualized Wi-Fi project in Spain
AOTEC members utilize Intracom Telecom's innovative solution

Athens, Greece - 21 February 2019 - Intracom Telecom, a global telecommunication systems and solutions vendor, announced the provision of its Virtualized Wi-Fi Services Platform to AOTEC members, to centrally manage disparate Wi-Fi networks, independently of the access point vendor used, offering seamless Wi-Fi connectivity & roaming to their subscribers throughout Spain. Three AOTEC members have already been connected to the Platform as this initial phase.

Fully aligned with the pan-European WiFi4EU initiative and in order to address the pressing challenge if their members to offer secure and seamless Wi-Fi connectivity throughout the Spanish region, AOTEC selected Intracom Telecom's Virtualized Wi-Fi Services Platform, which leverages the power of Software Defined Networking (SDN) and Network Functions Virtualization (NFV) technologies. AOTEC members may now drastically extend their service area by utilizing access points of other collaborating operators, without though making any changes to their existing infrastructure, while at the same time remaining commercially and operationally independent & securely isolated from each other. In addition to generating new revenue streams from their own or the roaming subscribers, the Service Providers are now also in position to serve municipalities, schools and local enterprises, under the Smart Cities umbrella. Intracom Telecom?s Virtualized Wi-Fi Services Platform may realize several innovative use cases, securely offered over a cloud-based deployment under the Platform-as-a-Service concept.

"Innovation is critical for local operators - companies that are continually making investments to improve their networks. In fact, the sector invests more than 766 million Euros per year. We were pioneers in the implementation of broadband with fiber optic and now we advance with the Wi-Fi networks in cities and towns where we are present", explains the President of AOTEC, Mr. Antonio Garcia Vidal. "In this sense, the collaboration with Intracom Telecom allows us to have a tool to expand the mobility services that we offer to our customers, providing them with new advantages that make us differentiate ourselves", he continues.

"There is a growing demand to have ubiquitous Wi-Fi access throughout extended public areas; this is a challenge also stressed by European Union's WiFi4EU initiative. As Intracom Telecom, following AOTEC's request, we answered this challenge with our Virtualized Wi-Fi Services Platform, giving the opportunity to AOTEC operators to take full advantage of every Wi-Fi access point deployed on their 'mega' network, independently of the respective equipment vendor. We are very excited for this project and look forward to welcoming and serving all AOTEC members through it", Mr. Sotiris G. Bithas, Marketing Director of the Telco Software Business Division of Intracom Telecom, has stated.

The new Virtualized Wi-Fi Services platform will be presented during the international exhibition MWC Barcelona 2019, at Intracom Telecom's booth 7B50, in Hall 7.
