Modern DSOs are in need of novel tools and methodologies that will enable them: to perform cost / benefit analysis regarding the incorporation of different technologies and the adoption of various emerging added-value services into the Distribution Grid modus operandi; to decide on the technically credible and economically viable operation of the Distribution Grid, especially in light of the presence of a large number of intermittent production units and while operating in island mode; to decide on the composition and functional characteristics of the various types of production units, as well as to the planning, scheduling, operation, supervision and control of the various assets of the Distribution Grid; and, to dynamically shape the load-curve in order to respond to the production conditions and dynamic conditions of the Distribution Grid.
Intracom SA Telecom Solutions is the Project Coordinator of the collaborative project DSO Toolbox: Distribution System Operators' Toolbox co-financed by Greece and European Union as part of the Single Research Technological Development and Innovation State Action: Research-Create-Innovate (project code: Τ1ΕΔΚ-00450)
The aim of this project is to develop a toolbox that will facilitate DSOs in the fulfillment of their tasks, both in the planning and at the operational phase. In this project, apart from coordination, Intracom SA Telecom Solutions participates in the implementation of a tool for techno-economic analysis of the impact of incorporating different technologies and added-value energy services into the Distribution System modus operandi; a tool for the operation of the Distribution Network at emergency conditions; and a tool for power quality monitoring in a Distribution Network. Finally, Intracom Telecom implements an Enterprise Service Bus for information’ and services' integration and interoperation within the DSO’s IT ecosystem.

Η εντεινόμενη διείσδυση Ανανεώσιμων Πηγών Ενέργειας (ΑΠΕ) στο Ηλεκτρικό Σύστημα (ΗΣ) συνεπάγεται σημαντικές προκλήσεις για το Δίκτυο Διανομής (ΔΔ). Γενικότερα, η μεγάλη διείσδυση ΑΠΕ επιφέρει σημαντικές προκλήσεις, τόσο ως προς την επιλογή της σύνθεσης και των λειτουργικών χαρακτηριστικών των μονάδων συμβατικής παραγωγής, όσο και ως προς τον προγραμματισμό ανάπτυξης, την εποπτεία και τον έλεγχο της λειτουργίας του ΗΣ ως συνόλου.
Τέτοιες προκλήσεις είναι: η μετάβαση από την τρέχουσα αρχιτεκτονική του ΔΔ σύμφωνα με την οποία η ισχύς ρέει από την συγκεντρωμένη παραγωγή προς τα κατανεμημένα φορτία προς τη νέα κατάσταση σύμφωνα με την οποία επιτρέπεται η αμφίδρομη ροή ισχύος στις γραμμές, λόγω της παρουσίας κατανεμημένων ΑΠΕ· η ανάγκη για δυναμική διαμόρφωση της καμπύλης φορτίου, ώστε να ανταποκρίνεται στη μεταβαλλόμενη παραγωγή και στην δυναμικά διαμορφούμενη κατάσταση του ΔΔ· η τεχνικά αξιόπιστη και οικονομικά βιώσιμη λειτουργία του ΔΔ, ειδικά όταν αυτό περιλαμβάνει μεγάλο αριθμό μονάδων παραγωγής με διακοπτόμενο χαρακτήρα και λειτουργεί σε αυτόνομη κατάσταση (island mode)· και, η αποτίμηση του κόστους / οφέλους διαφορετικών παρεμβάσεων τεχνολογικής αναβάθμισης του ΔΔ και εισαγωγής ενεργειακών υπηρεσιών προστιθέμενης αξίας.
Υπό το πρίσμα των παραπάνω προκλήσεων, επιδίωξη του έργου DSO Toolbox είναι η ανάπτυξη μιας εργαλειοθήκης που θα διευκολύνει τους Διαχειριστές ΔΔ τόσο στη φάση της μελέτης και του προγραμματισμού επέκτασης ή αναβάθμισης των ΔΔ -με στόχο της βελτίωση της αποδοτικότητας και την αύξηση της χωρητικότητας τους, υπό συνθήκες εντεινόμενης διείσδυσης ΑΠΕ και μονάδων τοπικής αποθήκευσης ενέργειας, όσο και στη φάση της ενεργούς διαχείρισης των ΔΔ - με στόχο τη δυναμική απόκριση σε μεταβαλλόμενη παραγωγή και κατανάλωση.
